AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini reveals the most disappointing defeat of his career
AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini has revealed the most disappointing game he has ever played during his career. "I lost a World Cup final and a European Cup; two of the worst disappointments I had. I have also lost three Champions League finals. All those defeats were very painful, but the one in Istanbul is maybe the most one because I thought that for me it was my last one. It would have been great to score and win that match and to finish the career after. The fate gave me the chance to do it two years later.” Maldini told DAZN (via Calciomercato)“The word Liverpool makes me think of the first final, we were 3-0 up; I scored after 40 seconds and we were the better team for 110 minutes out of 120, but we didn't win. Sometimes I think how strange the football is. We had a league game after the Istanbul final and nobody wanted to play that game. But we managed to show the strength of the group after reaching final two year later” added Maldini. Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso were the players that scored in the second half for the merseyside club to make one of the best comebacks in the history of football.
