Alisson Becker
has revealed to Liverpool’s official website that he was quick to rush to the referee and insist that his penalty decision was incorrect, last night in Atletico Madrid game.
The Reds celebrated
a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, as Mohamed Salah scored a double while Naby Keita also got his name on the scoresheet. Antoine Griezmann scored a brace as well, for Atletico.
The Merseyside club thought that they had conceded a spot kick when Mario Hermoso went down under contact from Diogo Jota.
And Luis Suarez was waiting to take the penalty, just before VAR intervened. Liverpool keeper Alisson may have had some influence over the referee’s thinking.
“About the penalty, I was quite sure that it was not a penalty,” Alisson said.
“I have good vision from the moment and I went straight to the referee to tell him because sometimes the referee doesn’t have a good [view].
“I think the VAR checked it really good, in a good way – this is my point of view. You have the images, you can know better and the referee made a good decision. It was not easy, there was a lot of pressure from the supporters, from the opponent as well but I think it was the right decision.”
