Arsene Wenger: Kyle Walker ‘is not a real defender’

Former Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger has identified Kyle Walker as England’s World Cup weak link. According to Wenger, England boss Gareth Southgate will soon regret about his decision to call the Manchester City star to the national team. Walker conceded a penalty in the 2-1 win over Tunisia which probably made Wenger think so. Wenger told BeIN SPORTS: ‘He’s not a real defender and especially not a central defender. He can be subject to making defensive mistakes which he would not pay for when he plays on the right.’ Wenger suggested that Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has only been used as a late substitute against Tunisia, should play in the back three instead of Walker. ‘He can play in the middle of the defence and as a midfielder,’ he said. ‘I don’t know why he has not been used at all.’
