Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has called Anfield the most hated stadium in Europe after Liverpool’s shocking Champions League comeback against Barcelona.
Few expected to see the Reds make it to next month’s Madrid final after a 3-0 first-leg defeat at the Nou Camp, but the five-time European champions seal a 4-0 victory at Anfield and progress 4-3 on aggregate.
“In Europe, they do well. Why? Anfield,” Wenger told beIN Sport. “[For a] home game, this is the most hated stadium in Europe in a return game. It is the only place you don’t want to go. The atmosphere – everything – is special there.”
Liverpool will take on Ajax or Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.
