Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ready to reveal new alter-ego with superhero mask celebration against Rennes.
Aubameyang was an internet sensation when he donned a Spider-Man mask to celebrate a Saint-Etienne goal in 2012. Two years later he whipped out a Batman mask for Dortmund, with team-mate Marco Reus joining in the fun dressed as Robin. And in 2017 he pulled out a specially prepared “Masked Finisher” hood to commemorate another goal against local rivals Schalke.
The 29-year-old planned to unveil the mask against Manchester United on Sunday.
He said: “I had a special celebration planned but I couldn’t find my mask. I asked a member of the staff to put it in the back of the net but when I scored the penalty I couldn’t find it. But no worries. Maybe next time.”
Arsenal have it all to do on Thursday night as they bid to recover from a Europa League shock against Rennes. Rennes scored three goals without reply to take a 3-1 lead to England.
