Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that they wanted to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus before his move to
Manchester United.
However, the La Liga giants could not match United’s £90million bid.
"In the summer of 2015, Paul Pogba was playing in Turin and we simply told Juve that, if one day they decide to sell the player, we would be interested," Bartomeu told ESPN FC.
"When they sold the player, they told us what the offer would have to be and we couldn't afford that amount of money at the time.
"So he went to United, and he's making them better as a team because he's one of the stars of the world of football right now."
Pogba signed a five-year contract with United and has become one of the key players at Old Trafford. His contract expires in 2021 and United have an option of taking up a further year. The problem is that the World-Cup winner wants to be the richest player at the club with a £500,000-a-week salary. Moreover, he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, after the Frenchman stated that it would be a dream to play in Madrid.
The 26-year-old will be in action for Red Devils when Manchester United host Barcelona at Old Trafford in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal. The game will kick –off on Wednesday, April 10.
