Barcelona resigned to losing Ivan Rakitic in the summer as midfielder eyes emotional return to his former side

Barcelona are resigned to losing the club midfielder Ivan Rakitic, with the player keen to return to Sevilla at the end of his career, according to reports.

Rakitic joined Catalan giants from his former side in 2014, after spending three-and-a-half fortunate seasons in Seville.

The Croatian international has enjoyed a huge success at the Camp Nou, however, later finding his playing time limited. In January he rejected the chance to join Juventus, with the Serie A side having offered a £39m transfer fee. Now it has been reported that the 32-year-old wants to leave Barcelona in the summer to end his career at his former club. He met his now-wife in the city, and won the Europa League in his final season in Sevilla before moving to Barcelona.

Though the player's contract expires in 2021, La Liga giants will be eager to sell him during the upcoming transfer window rather than let him leave for free 12 months later. Sevilla are already reported to have made contact for Rakitic, with both clubs ready for the deal.
