BBC pundit Charlie Adam has expressed his support for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire's decision to decline a move to West Ham during this summer's transfer window.
The England international had experienced a dip in his standing at the club, leading to speculations about his potential departure from Old Trafford during several junctures throughout the summer.
While the Hammers had reached an agreement with the Manchester giants for the 30-year-old's transfer, the player himself opted to reject the opportunity, and according to Adam, this choice was indeed the right one.
The pundit commended Maguire's decision, suggesting that it was in his best interest to remain with the Red Devils, even in the face of a challenging period.
“I think Harry Maguire could have gone to West Ham, I think McTominay could have done to West Ham,” Adam said, quoted by Caught Offside.
“But ultimately if it is not right for the player, then they are not going to go, are they? If they feel that they are good enough to get back into the team or the squad, then obviously they are not going to go.
“They are not just going to get pushed through the door because your manager says, ‘Well, you can go’.
“You fight for your place. It’s easy just to give up.”
