Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has finally relieved of his duties after two increasingly fractious years in charge.
It is understood Conte said his farewells to his players on Thursday lunchtime after training. Chelsea finally issued a statement confirming his departure on Friday morning.
“During Antonio’s time at the club, we won our sixth league title and eighth FA Cup,” it said.
“In the title winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game Premier League season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories. We wish Antonio every success in his future career.”
Now Chelsea new head coach is expected to become Maurizio Sarri, who led Napoli to second place in Serie A last season.
Chelsea are likely to pay around £50m, with further fees due in bonuses, to secure the Italy midfielder Jorginho and Sarri.
