Manchester Evening News journalist Stuart Brennan has hinted that UEFA’s latest plans to resume the Champions League amid the current global pandemic could hugely benefit Manchester City.
The Blues beat Real Madrid 2-1 at Bernabeu in the first leg of the Champions League. But the second leg was postponed, which was quickly followed by the suspension of all football, across Europe.
The European Club Association and the European Leagues association said that the preferred format was to finish the domestic league competitions and then switch to the Champions League and Europa League.
That would mean a full round of Premier League fixtures in June and European tournaments in July and August.
Bearing this in mind Brennan may have a point, with City’s chase for Champions League glory debatably becoming a number one priority this season.
