Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is facing a “crucial two months” if his side want to compete for the Premier League title, according to club legend Mario Melchiot. The Blues suffered their first loss in 14 games when they handed a 1-0 victory to Everton. Speaking to Stadium Astro after the loss at Goodison Park, the former midfielder said: “The team has to perform every time. There are new players in that team that don’t know the league but they’ll have to pick it up quickly. “The games are coming so fast and, as [Sir Alex] Ferguson said, the league is always won in December and January. If you don’t do well in those two months and you start dropping points, that’s when it becomes difficult.” Chelsea’s next game comes on Tuesday against Wolves before hosting West Ham the following Monday. The Christmas period sees Lampard’s side face Arsenal, Aston Villa before taking on Manchester City for the first game of 2021.
