Chelsea chief Granovskaia in ‘official negotiations’ to land ‘dream’ Abramovich signing

Chelsea director of football Marina Granovskaia has ‘entered official negotiations’ with Bayer Leverkusen over a transfer for Kai Havertz. The Blues have made the talented winger their priority focus since signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. According to German publication Bild, Granovskaia is now in talks with Leverkusen chiefs Rudi Voller and Fernando Carro over a deal. Havertz has made it clear to his club he wants to join Chelsea with personal terms already agreed. Havertz won’t come cheap with the report suggesting the total deal will cost £180m, with £90m in wages and a €100m transfer fee. But it seems owner Roman Abramovich is ready to pay whatever it takes to land the 21-year-old with Bild, via Sport Witness. Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder and BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves has backed Chelsea’s pursuit of the Germany international. "He’s a really good player," the former midfielder said on BT Sport. "He’s a great young player, but they have a lot of those great young players "I think they need some leaders in there. Havertz for £90million - you want ready-made, walks in and makes you a better team, and I think the worry is they spend right now £200m on [Timo] Werner, [Hakim] Ziyech and Havertz and they can still finish fourth or fifth. "They want to win a title and I think Havertz is a special player, but it feels like they need to sort out the 'keeper and the centre-backs first. Mason Mount could play in there. Where does Mason then play? He’s had good season.” Source: Daily Star
