Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui was sacked on Monday, following Sunday’s El Clasico, where Barcelona hammered Real Madrid 5-1 at the Camp Nou.
Rumours had been rife that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte could be the new manager, however, Santiago Solari has been put in temporary charge of Los Blancos.
Conte’s decision to turn down Real Madrid may cost Chelsea millions, according to The Times.
Antonio Conte’s failure to agree on terms with Real Madrid could cost Chelsea more than £7 million as the club’s former coach continues to pursue them for damages after his sacking last summer.
Under the terms of his last contract, signed in July 2017, Conte is entitled to receive his £9.5 million salaries for a year, or until he takes another job, so it was in Chelsea’s interests for him to join Real.
