England left-back Ben Chilwell joined Chelsea from Leicester City on a five-year deal for £45m, the club have confirmed on Wednesday. Chilwell becomes Frank Lampard's third signing for the Blues. Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner have joined the club. The 23-year-old is a Leicester academy product who made his debut for the club in 2015. He missed the final five matches of the 2019-20 season with a foot injury. "I'm looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season," said Chilwell. "He [Lampard] does play the younger players if they are good enough and just from speaking to him, I'm really excited to be here. I think the way the gaffer sets his teams up suits my game perfectly." However, Chelsea did not reveal what shirt number Chilwell would be wearing. Therefore, we are looking at possible numbers for the left-back. Chilwell wears number three at Leicester but Marcos Alonso is wearing at right now. Both Alonso and fellow left-back Emerson Palmieri have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge, meaning the number could either be freed up for Chilwell or Alonso could be assigned a new number if he stays. Other options for Chilwell include the number 30 shirt, which he wore in his debut season for the Foxes. Numbers 10, 16, 21, 27 31, 32, 34 and 35 are all free as well.
