Manchester City are prepared to pay Lionel Messi £450m as part of a five-year deal that would eventually see him join New York City, according to Sport. In fact, no approach from any club has been made yet, but the source suggests City “has been working the most” to prepare a deal for the player. City officials have sat down to discuss the figures surrounding any potential deal for Messi. If that happens, then City and Messi will agree on a five-year contract until June 30, 2025. Sport say Messi would cost City around €100m per year, but after his proposed switch to New York, Messi would receive a bonus of €250m. That would mean breaking the Financial Fair Play rules, so a deal would have to be worked out where it can be incorporated.
