Dani Ceballos has "destroyed" former Arsenal boss Unai Emery by claiming the club was "almost dead" before Mikel Arteta replaced him as manager.
Emery was sacked in November 2019 after leading the Gunners on a run of seven games without a win during his second season in charge. Arteta was appointed in the Emirates hot seat the following month and steered Arsenal to FA Cup glory after just eight months in the job.
Ceballos has played under both managers and was brought to north London on a season-long loan from Real Madrid by Emery in July last year.
And the 24-year-old insists his current boss has revived a team from the brink of disaster as he aimed a thinly-veiled swipe at former manager Emery.
“The team was almost dead - but after Arteta’s arrival we won the FA Cup and the Community Shield," Ceballos told
The Sun .
"It’s not even a year since he arrived and he has given a radical change to the club. He’s the soul of the club and he’s lucky that the players trust him 100 per cent.
“Arsenal need him, in part because he takes the initiative most of the time.”
