"Great player": Paul Merson thinks Chelsea newcomer could make a great impact in the Premier League

Paul Merson believes Chelsea's new striker Nicolas Jackson has great potential and could make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming season.

The 22-year-old recently completed a £32 million transfer from Villarreal to Chelsea, signing an eight-year contract with the club. Chelsea's co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, have praised Jackson's talents and see him as a player with a promising future.

During the club's pre-season tour of the United States, Jackson played a crucial role, impressing with his performances. The Senegalese player, who made his international debut last year, scored two goals and provided three assists in friendly matches against Wrexham, Brighton, and Newcastle.

Given his performances and potential, Merson is excited about Jackson's prospects and believes he can make a name for himself in the Premier League.

"Nicolas Jackson looks like a great player," the pundit told Sportskeeda.

"He's very lively and direct, and he doesn't mess about. He can score a goal and make a goal as well."

"He’s linked up very well with (Mykhaylo) Mudryk so far, and both of them have been very impressive in pre-season. I've been very surprised with Jackson so far. I know it's only pre-season, but what I've seen has been ample. He's a handful, and I'd definitely say that he's going to surprise people this season," Merson added.
