Arsenal target Ivan Fresneda's release clause in his Real Valladolid contract has been reduced by half after the team's relegation from La Liga, according to the sports journalist Charles Watts.
The Gunners were interested in signing the 18-year-old player in January, but he chose to remain at his current club. Now, with the reduced release clause of £17 million (previously £35 million), other clubs might take notice of the highly regarded young right-back.
It remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta's side will pursue his signature amidst their other priorities, such as attempting to acquire midfielders Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice. If Arsenal secure Fresneda, it is likely that he will be loaned out again, Watts suggests.
“When I look at him, you are looking at how you improve your squad, he’s obviously a very talented player. But he’s very young. He has never played in England before. Does he come in and improve your squad for the Champions League and this season? I am not sure. He is very much one for the future. It seems like you sign him, and then you send him out on loan again to play," the journalist said on his own YouTube channel, via HITC.
