Manchester City have revealed their official squad for the first half of the Premier League season.
Pep Guardiola has selected a group of 20 players, including summer signings Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes. Three of these newcomers have already made their debut for the club, while Nunes, who was an unused substitute against Fulham, is eager to get some playing time after the international break.
Each club is permitted to register a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players and an additional eight who fall into the homegrown category, having been registered at an English or Welsh club for three consecutive years before turning 21. In addition to this, players classified as Under-21, like Rico Lewis, Jeremy Doku, and Josko Gvardiol, can be included.
City has opted for a smaller squad size due to Guardiola's preference for working with a more compact group of players. Several players, including James McAtee (loaned to Sheffield United) and Cole Palmer (transferred to Chelsea for £42.5 million), departed during the summer transfer window.
Given the squad's modest size, there are no notable omissions. Even Zack Steffen, who has fallen out of favor and is dealing with a long-term injury, is included despite missing out on the Champions League squad. City will have the option to make adjustments to the squad following the closure of the winter transfer window.
