Fabrizio Romano has discussed the recent developments surrounding Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.
The talented 20-year-old forward made a strong impression in Ligue 1 last season, attracting interest from various top clubs, including Chelsea.
However, the Italian transfer expert believes it might be too early in the Frenchman's career for him to make a move to a high-profile club like the Blues.
In his exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Romano explained that Wahi would likely benefit from regular playing time in the upcoming season, which could prove challenging if he were to join Stamford Bridge.
Nevertheless, it appears that the club are exploring the possibility of a strategic arrangement involving Strasbourg, a club that shares a recent investment connection with owners.
This arrangement could potentially allow the forward to gain valuable experience at Strasbourg before assessing his readiness to become a regular starter under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.
“I’m aware there have also been some reports about Chelsea and Elye Wahi, but my understanding is that it’s not something imminent at this stage.
“The talented young Montpellier forward is still assessing his options, many clubs are following him, but still nothing concrete. I’ve been told Chelsea’s plan is to do something with Strasbourg but it’s not that easy, the player side will be crucial to make a decision.
“In my personal opinion he probably still needs one more step before making that leap to one of the Premier League’s top clubs – he’s very talented, but needs to play.”
