AC Milan were interested in making an official bid to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle on loan with an option to buy.
Meanwhile, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies were never into letting their star depart from St James' Park.
The 25-year-old had outstanding performances under Eddie Howe, however, it remains uncertain whether the Frenchman will have a key role in the coach's pecking order following his not-really-remarkable form this campaign.
Therefore, the Serie A giants were keen to get the player's services, who as per reports offered himself to the San Siro side.
According to the expert, the Premier League team had no plans on selling Saint-Maximin this January, however, tables could be turned in the summer as the journalist reported.
“Newcastle were never really open to let Allan Saint-Maximin leave so it wasn’t close with AC Milan,” Romano said.
“I’m aware his agent has spoken about Milan’s interest, but it wasn’t advanced. In the summer we will see, I’d be lying to mention any guaranteed transfer news now for the summer because many things will change for every club in the next few months.” told Romano via CaughtOffside.
