Fernando Alonso could return to the world of Formula One in the 2021 season by taking a seat with Renault, his main adviser, Flavio Briatore has revealed. Alonso has been tipped to return after leaving McLaren at the end of an uncompetitive four-season stint in 2018.
“Fernando is motivated. A year out of Formula 1 has done him good. He has detoxed himself and I see him more serene and ready to return,” Briatore said in a recent interview.
A seat has opened up at Renault for 2021 after Daniel Ricciardo secured a switch to McLaren.
Alonso has held talks with Renault and the Daily Telegraph even go as far to say that he has signed a pre-agreement to rejoin the team. The Spaniard won his two-world titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006.
