In 2018 Kamba told the authorities that he was separated from his friends during a trip in Congo and left without any documents, money or a telephone.
Essen prosecutor Anette Milk told the Bild: “He stated that he left his companions at night in January 2016 on a trip to the interior of the Congo and without being left behind with papers, money, telephone, etc. ”
Following his disappearance, Kamba was pronounced dead in 2016 and his ex-wife claimed a six-figure amount on his life insurance. She is now being investigated for fraud amid reports the documents were forged.
Kamba was once team-mates with German No 1 Manuel Neuer.
