Gareth Southgate comments on England’s defeat against Belgium

Belgium beat England 1-0 on Thursday in the final set of matches of the group stage. The win means that Belgium win the group, and are thus placed in a very difficult side of the bracket along with Brazil, Mexico, France, Argentina, Uruguay and Portugal. According to manager Gareth Southgate, England’s last 16-tie against Colombia is the “biggest knockout game for a decade”. Southgate said: "What we have to do is prepare for a thrilling knockout game. Our objective was to qualify from the group and we have done that. "We are still a work in progress but that's not a bad thing at this stage." "We kept pressing until the end. I think the supporters understand what the most important thing is. None of us know if this side of the draw is advantageous or not. "Everybody is in the frame to play in the next game and it was important these players were given time on the pitch to press their case. Anybody that plays against Colombia will know they are match ready." Should they beat Colombia, England will face Sweden or Switzerland,

Alexander-Arnold: We don’t want to get to penalties, but it’s football and not everything goes as planned
