England national team coach Gareth Southgate revealed that he is keeping the door open for Jordan Henderson to potentially join their Euro 2024 squad, despite the midfielder's recent move to Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Southgate stated that he had discussed the situation with Henderson during the summer. Henderson was concerned if his move to a different league would automatically exclude him from national team consideration, but the coach emphasized that it would be "stupid" to make such judgments solely based on a player's new club.
"We've got to see how they're playing, what level they're playing at and how they are physically and everything else", pointed out the head coach as the main factors to cast a decision on.
In the end, the Englishman admitted that the growing number of players moving to the Saudi Pro League has changed his perception of the issue. If he was confronted with the same situation three months ago, his answer might've been different.
