Gary Neville has opened up on the challenges faced by Erik ten Hag at Manchester United during their disappointing start to the season.
United suffered a painful 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford against Brighton on Saturday, marking their third loss in five games this season. This slow start mirrors the previous one, with Manchester United still trailing significantly behind the top-tier teams.
Despite substantial investments exceeding £200 million during the summer transfer window, aimed at closing the gap with clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City, the club have yet to show significant improvement.
According to Neville, there remains a perception that the squad lacks the necessary quality as he shared the concerns about the Red Devils' squad.
"I never thought for one second they would challenge Manchester City and Arsenal from the players that they brought in," the pundit said, via Manchester World.
"That would have needed a Harry Kane-type signing or Declan Rice, as an example. They didn't have the money to do those types of signings. They're not very good at the moment. There's no hysteria. I went to the Brighton game as a fan thinking, 'Could I be surprised?'."
