Glen Johnson has named one reason that could attract Decan Rice to join Chelsea in near future.
The Englan international has been heavily linked with a move from the London Stadium as West Ham is open to hearing offers if a proper amount fee is done.
In the battle for the midfielder, Graham Potter's side remain the leading candidate following the player's intention of not extending with the Hammers
Speaking via Football London, Johnson has admitted the Blues have to renew Mason Mount's contract with a salary rise to keep him at the club. Therefore, it would be easier for the Londoners to convince Rice to join Stamford Bridge and have an opportunity to play alongside his best friend.
"Obviously he’s a good player and Chelsea won’t want to lose him but you can’t be held hostage to anyone.
"I can’t imagine he’s the sort of lad that would down tools if he doesn’t get £300,000-a-week. He doesn’t seem like that sort of fella.
"I don’t believe that’s true, so I think they’ll come to an arrangement eventually. Chelsea may have to keep Mount tactically if they do want to sign Declan Rice as well." added the former Chelsea right-back.
