Hakim Ziyech has confirmed he will join Chelsea on July 1 despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Ziyech agreed to move to the Blues earlier this year.
Doubts have been raised over this summer’s transfer window because of the ongoing crisis, with FIFA recommending player contracts are extended to the end of the 2019/20 season – whenever that is. But Ziyech says he will be a Chelsea player on July 1 regardless of any changes to the transfer window.
“After I signed the contract that was it – on July 1 I am a Chelsea player. I haven’t given it another thought,” Ziyech told AD. “It’s nice for me to have some clarity. Nobody knows exactly what will happen to the transfer market. Clubs will be more anxious to attract players for large transfer fees.”
So how Frank Lampard could use Hakim Ziyech at Chelsea? Here are three ways.
Winger
The most obvious place, where Ziyech could play is the wing. Chelsea players Willian and Pedro are likely to leave the club and Ziyech will be an ideal replacement on the wing. The Moroccan can add creativity, cross-field passes and wand of a left foot.
Attacking midfielder
Ziyech played as an attacking midfielder at Heerenveen and FC Twente. In this role in the 15/16 season with Twente, Ziyech managed 17 goals and 12 assists in 33 outings and it's a good statistic. He could be used as an attacking midfielder at Chelsea if Lampard will set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Central midfielder
Besides the roles of winger and attacking midfielder, Ziyech also feels comfortable dropping deeper in midfield. He could be an ideal central midfielder in the 4-3-3 formation, where he could shield by a defensive midfielder N'Golo Kante or Jorginho.
