Petr Cech has reportedly played an essential role in Chelsea signing a deal with RB Leipzig star Timo Werner and beating Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.
According to
The Telegraph, former Chelsea stopper joined the Blues current boss and his former team-mate Frank Lampard on a secret pre-lockdown trip to Germany to help convince Werner to make a move to the Stamford Bridge. Cech, who is the technical and performance adviser at the club, alongside Lampard laid out his vision for Werner in a meeting, giving Chelsea’s bid the personal touch.
Cech was also responsible for something else, as Werner and his father and agent Karlheinz Forster are not fluent in English and he speaks perfect German.
The Blues former keeper previously held talks with Werner ahead of the January transfer window, however the German was reluctant to leave mid-season. And, now he is set to join Chelsea.
Cech also played a key role in Hakim Ziyech’s transfer, in a new-look negotiating style for Chelsea. He sat in on every meeting with Ziyech and his agent, with Lampard also keeping regularly in touch with the attacking midfielder during negotiations over his £37million deal.
