Dele Alli should leave the club after falling down the pecking order at Tottenham Hotspur, according to Noel Whelan. Ex-Leeds United and Coventry City forward Whelan said it is clear from Jose Mourinho’s use of him that Alli’s days in north London are numbered via Football Insider. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder failed to make the Spurs matchday squad on Sunday even though Premier League clubs are now allowed to name nine substitutes. Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano reports that it looks like Alli’s five-year spell with Spurs might be over. Reacting to this latest update on Alli’s future, Whelan told Football Insider: “I’m a little bit shocked, but then not so shocked because it’s been that way since Jose came into the club. There’s not been a great relationship between the two men. "From what you can see, he’s not been first choice in the midfield areas. He’s chosen other players over Dele Alli. I don’t think he’s been too impressed with his performances when he’s been given an opportunity. So no, it doesn’t surprise me. Maybe club and player need to go in different directions.”
