"I'm told": Journalist says 25-year-old midfielder can see himself as part of Mikel Arteta's project

Journalist Dean Jones has provided a transfer update on Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo. The 25-year-old player has been heavily linked with the move to Arsenal for the January transfer window. As the Gunners have just one week in order to reach an agreement, Jones has opened up on the possible transfer on The Done Deal Show. “The player needs convincing that this is the right move for him. What I’m told from a contact in Italy is that he can imagine himself becoming a part of this Arsenal project, but not for four or five months,” he said. “For a player like him to make that switch from Serie A to the Premier League and settle into the side and the style of football and become a part of the team, without knowing whether or not he’s going to be staying, that’s not really what he’s looking for and from what I’m told, he wants a longer-term deal. “With Juventus, if he’s going to go, they’d prefer it to be permanent. Arteta definitely likes him, Allegri would take him or leave him to be honest. It’s doable, and it’s certainly more doable than Vlahovic ever was.”
