Jan Vertonghen reveals Tottenham “pain” after disallowed goal

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen said football has changed a lot after the introduction of VAR and revealed “pain” his team had after the goal that was disallowed because of offside. Spurs had a bad week as they lost 2-1 to Leicester City on Saturday. Harry Kane scored the first goal for his team, Serge Aurier scored another one but it was ruled out by VAR as offside. Ricardo Pereira and James Maddison scored two for the Foxes and they ended up winning this week. After the defeat at the King Power Stadium, Vertonghen said: “It’s painful. Man City probably felt the same in the quarter-final of the Champions League last season. It was the same distance [the marginal offside]. “It was tough because I thought we were doing well, we thought we were going 2-0 up. We were defending well. We didn’t create too many chances but we felt comfortable.” The Belgian believes VAR technology changes a lot in football; "It makes football a different game, you know? It takes a lot out of it. It’s for the good but it has changed a lot,” he said “Whatever. It’s tough when it goes against you and good when it goes for you.”
