Benfica B manager Renato Paiva, who coached Joao Felix at his boyhood club, has annoucned that the Portugal wonderkid decided to join Atletico Madrid in spite of his advice to move to Manchester City.
The 19-year-old had long been linked with several European giants, however, he joined Atletico Madrid with a £113million deal.
Asked whether he advised the Portugese which club to join, Paiva told
The Sportsman:
"Yes. I said Manchester City or Barcelona. I said City because of Pep Guardiola, or Barcelona because of the way they play. I think the characteristics of Joao are better in that kind of game. I respect... for God’s sake, I respect Atletico Madrid a lot. But the idea of City I think was better for Joao, especially with Pep."
