Jordan Henderson has provided more insight into his conversation with Jurgen Klopp before departing from Liverpool during the summer. He discussed this in an interview with The Athletic after moving to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
Over the past few months, there has been a growing connection between Liverpool and Saudi Arabia. Roberto Firmino was the first player to move to the Middle East as his contract at Anfield came to an end, fitting the profile of players expected to head to Saudi Arabia.
Shortly after, Fabinho became the next player on their radar and also made a move, joining Al-Ittihad on a three-year contract. Subsequently, Jordan Henderson followed suit and revealed that he had a conversation with manager Jurgen Klopp about leaving Liverpool.
Following Henderson's departure, the Reds spent the entire summer searching for a suitable replacement and eventually settled on Ryan Gravenberch. However, the Dutchman's arrival was not expected, as evidenced by the club's scramble to secure another midfield target.
Now, Saudi Arabia has set its sights on its most significant target yet: Mohamed Salah. In contrast to Henderson, Liverpool seem determined to prevent Salah from making the switch this summer.
“There were a few things that sent alarm bells ringing. I’ve got a very good relationship with Jurgen. He was very honest with me," Henderson said in an exclusive interview when speaking about his private talk with Jurgen Klopp.
“I won’t go into detail about the conversation because it’s private, but it put me in a position where I knew that I wasn’t going to be playing as much.
“I knew there were going to be new players coming in my position," he added.
