Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is set to decide between two possible candidates of the club’s captain next season to replace Michael Carrick.
Carrick was made captain when Wayne Rooney left the club for Everton last summer, however, the midfielder is set to leave after 12 yaers at Manchester United.
Paul Pogba was given the armband in back-to-back matches in December 2017 but he can hardly become the club’s next captain.
Speaking after a game in which Pogba had the armband against Leicester, Mourinho said.
‘Against Leicester we felt that it could be an extra motivation for him and that was it, there was no special decision,’ said Mourinho. ‘But maybe, because he’s a young guy and made in the club academy, he has the conditions to be captain in the future.’
However, Pogba’s relationship with the boss has soured lately unlike Matic who has been well liked member of the squad.
De Gea is one of the longest-serving players at the club and also has complete respect from the club.
We’ll see whether the armband will go to Matic or De Gea.
