Jose Mourinho ‘green lights’ forward transfer as Tottenham get desperate

Tottenham could make a surprise late bid for Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke. Jose Mourinho is keen to add to his attacking options before the transfer window closes. The pile-up of matches in the Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup are set to continue for Spurs through the winter months and seem to have already taken their toll on the injured Heung-min Son. The recent fitness problems of Harry Kane are also likely to be a concern of Mourinho. Football Insider have reported that Mourinho has given the 'green light' over Benteke after alternate deals have fallen through. Benteke joined Premier League from Genk in 2012 and earned a move to Liverpool after scoring 49 goals in 101 games. However, the Belgium international managed nine goals in 29 Premier League appearances for the Reds and hit the ground running with 15 strikes in his first season at Selhurst Park. The following three seasons have proved to be far less impressive, which could lead to his exit.
