Jose Mourinho claimed the old Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino would have struggled against Wolves.
Spurs beat Wolves after Jan Vertonghen scored to make it 2-1. In the first half, Lucas Moura opened the score before Adama Traore equalized it.
The victory gives Mourinho four wins out of five since taking over from sacked Pochettino less than a month ago.
“Wolves were super dominant at corners and free kicks. We won because we coped so well with the defensive set pieces,” said Mourinho. “It is something that a couple of weeks ago where Tottenham were struggling, conceding goals in every set piece. But we came here and managed to be very dominating in that area of the game.
“It was difficult. We tried to take Wolves from their comfort zone, but they have players who are like trains. When I saw Dier hit the post I thought if we don’t score now we are going to suffer and we did.
“In the end it was a great header from Vertonghen that won it for us. This win was about our strong mentality. The concept of a team in the real sense. To win this match only a ‘team’ can win. The game was difficult for us.
“I am really happy that we have no game in midweek because if we had one in two or three days it would be really hard to recover. It was super fast. I get tired just thinking about the Wolves players
“Our goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga had magic hands when he made a late save for us. Wolves wanted to win, not draw. They are with us, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal fighting for top six and they can smell the top four.”
Spurs will face Chelsea on Sunday, December 22.
