Journalist says "very good player" who may move this summer has "massive admirers" at Liverpool

Goal journalist Neil Jones has opened up on Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez, claiming the player has massive admirers at Liverpool. Speaking on The Redmen TV YouTube channel, he revealed that the 26-year-old was actually close to making a move to Anfield during the managerial time of Brendan Rodgers. “I know for a fact he’s got massive admirers at Liverpool and actually he was close to signing for Liverpool in the Brendan Rodgers era. In 2014 there was a spell around January where Liverpool were looking to get rid of Lucas Leiva or Lucas Leiva was looking to get rid of Liverpool. I think he was at Atletico and I think he went on loan to Real Valladolid,” Jones said. “I know that they really like him, at least a couple of guys on the scouting team, including guys who covered him quite extensively in Spain really like the competitive element. He’s a very good player.”
