Jurgen Klopp reveals why he has preferred Gini Wijnaldum in Liverpool’s midfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has selected Rodrigo Wijnaldum in the starting XI in all three Premier League games this season with the Brazilian boy Fabinho excluded. Klopp has revealed the mentality that has made Wijnaldum an automatic choice. “Gini can switch from one mindset to the other and that is pretty good for us,” he explained. “If you ask me he was brilliant in pre-season as the eight. He was good as the six but brilliant as the eight. That’s why we never had any doubts about him. He can play both. “It was always clear he would be in the mix for the six position. He has worked hard and plays it very well. He’s a good footballer, but it is important that you have the kind of mindset that you can cool yourself down in different situations. “(In that role) it’s important you don’t follow the ball or offer runs in behind when we have enough players to do that. We need a few reasonable persons on the pitch, if you want, and Gini has shown he can switch between both.” Wijnaldum has revealed that Klopp has spent time speaking to him. “He said the next step for me, is that I can play in more positions than only one because I have the qualities to play there and can help the team to do better,” Wijnaldum explained. “We speak a lot about it and he makes me aware of what I have to do to become a better player. He said that I have to be more involved in games, and that is what I am trying to do.”
