Premier League returns this weekend after the international break, as Watford host Liverpool at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league and sit just two points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Ahead of the game, the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken out to the press and claimed Adam Lallana will miss the clash.
Sadio Mane has extended his contract until 2023 and of course, Klopp is very happy.
“It's not like I say, good morning Sadio, you're world class. I am really happy that he's signed his contract - it's a big sign,” said Klopp. “Sometimes he’s not aware of [how good he is.] He’s in the best years of his career. It’s all good so far. I’m really happy about the fact he’s signed this contract. If a player is in a very good moment in his career and you can extend his contract it’s a statement. I’m happy about that. It shows the change the club did in the last few years. A few years ago players in a very good moment thought they had to leave the club to make the next step but now the boys think they can make the next step here.
“You sign a player and hope it works out. This club always shows that we realise the value of a player with a new contract. We are confident with the squad, we will not change anything in the near future, I don’t think so. We have to carry on and use the quality we have. It’s good that it’s settled and that it’s fixed and now nobody has to come and ask for these players. That’s it.”
The Egypt coach Javier Aguirre claimed Mohamed Salah could leave Liverpool in search of titles. However, Jurgen Klopp has his say about it.
“I would say if he [Aguirre] doesn’t win titles in the next two years he should move country! I don’t know why people say things like that. Obviously, I don’t agree but it’s a free world and he can say whatever he wants. That’s good actually.”
Liverpool boss also responds to Fabinho transfer rumours: “If he was one for the future and settling, he played three of the last four and did well. It was all good. Now the most intense period of the whole season is coming up. He has used the time to adjust to what we want him to do. He has done really good when he has played. Of course, he will not leave. It’s the crazy world out there that if he doesn’t play the last five games then [people say] he will leave.”
The Reds boss insists they will set a new defensive record for least goals conceded with a clean sheet tomorrow: “Now I play 11 defenders tomorrow!”
More from the press conference
Sturridge Charge
Obviously, I know about the case, but you don’t see any influence on Daniel in training. I don’t know that I can say anything about the case, but in training, he’s completely normal, looks sharp, looks focused. Of course, it’s not something you want.
Solanke Future
We will see [about his future.] Nobody should worry about the future of English football. This could be the best U21 team ever when you think about who could play for the first-team, like Trent, [Ben] Chilwell, Loftus-Cheek, Rashford. It’s a bit difficult [Solanke’s] situation here but if Dom continues as he did so far then he will be fine. There’s nothing to say about short or long-term things. He is our player. If I have to decide it will stay like that. We will see what happens. We want to help Dom and he can help us. That’s the target.
On Keita
His start was really good and then average. That’s how it is. I watched his game [for Guinea] and seen a yellow surface. It was a bouncy game. He came back tired. There are three stops on the way back so that’s not cool. He trained yesterday and was completely fine. Naby can improve and learn the language but it’s a long-term project. We will use him. Short-term, long-term, future. How it looks at the moment, hopefully, it stays together and you will see them all. We want them in the best shape they can be and to get the points for us.
Shaqiri Role
I felt comfortable [using Shaqiri away from home in big-games] before. It depends on fitness, form, shape, whatever. It will happen in the future. Pretty sure.
