Lewis Hamilton, a five-time Formula one champion, flirted with the idea of leaving Mercedes for Ferrari after revealing he has always been a Ferrari fan.
The Brit is out of contract at the end of next year and doubts have been cast over his future at Mercedes and the Brit did little to silence those rumours, seemingly adding to the speculation with talk he has spoken to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
Hamilton said: “
Toto’s a very intelligent man so we have great negotiations and great conversations. I’ve been with Mercedes since I was 13, so it’s very difficult to see myself anywhere else. I have never made it a secret that I’ve been a Ferrari fan, particularly Ferrari cars.”
“Do I plan on going elsewhere? I haven’t made any plans for my future,” said Hamilton. “At the moment I’m just enjoying driving with this team. It’s incredible what we’re achieving together, and I plan on working with this team to help it become the most successful team of all time. That’s my current goal and my sole focus.”
Hamilton led Valtteri Bottas to the fifth consecutive Mercedes one-two at the start of this season after dominating the Spanish Grand Prix. The next race in the calendar is the Monaco Grand Prix on May 26.
