Lewis Hamilton believes signing a contract extension at Mercedes before Christmas would be "a nice gift". Hamilton's current deal at Mercedes expires at the end of the 2020 season. Hamilton, who finished the 2020 season on 347 points with 11 race wins, said he would like the contract sign up before Christmas. Hamilton said: "Hopefully over the next couple of weeks [the contract will be sorted]. I would love - we would love - to get it done before Christmas, I think. I plan to be here next year; I want to be here next year. I think us, as a team, have more to do together and more to achieve both in the sport but even more outside the sport I think. So yeah, I hope we can begin this week, discussions, and hopefully get it tied up before Christmas." Wolff insists there is no chance Hamilton won't sign a new contract. "It is going to happen," said Wolff. "There is no reason it is not going to happen."
