Liverpool were never interested in re-signing Philippe Coutinho back to the club this summer, according to
The Athletic.
Coutinho joined Barcelona in a £148million move in January 2018 but failed to live up the expectations and signed a season-long deal with Bayern Munich on Monday.
Before his move to Bundesliga, the Brazilian had been linked with Liverpool.
However, Liverpool quickly decided that they didn’t want to re-sign him.
The main reason was the finances, as it would have cost Liverpool in excess of £21m in wages and loan fees to secure the midfielder's services for the season. Coutinho was by no means guaranteed to start under Jurgen Klopp, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino forming a deadly attack following Coutinho's departure.
