Liverpool will get a record £175million payout for winning the Premier League title, after an agreement to delay the cuts to prize money due to COVID-19. Premier League clubs will receive their full prize money payouts this summer.
All 20 clubs have agreed that cuts to TV revenue, which could total £330m, will be spread out over future seasons instead. They have also agreed to another advance of solidarity payments to EFL clubs. Liverpool will receive a record sum of about £175m in prize money and TV earnings.
According to an analysis by the football finance expert Swiss Ramble, Liverpool’s prize money would have dropped by £21m if the rebate had been applied to last year’s earnings. The Times claims the decision has been made to ‘delay the pain’ of the pandemic.
The allocation of TV money was changed last season so that it will be dished out according to where clubs finish in the Premier League table, rather than it being split equalling between all 20 teams.
