Manchester City's coaching staff are concerned about the fitness of Nathan Ake after he was substituted at halftime during the Netherlands' 3-0 victory over Greece.
The match between the two nations aimed at securing second place in European Championship Qualification Group B, as France had already taken a significant lead with 15 points, having played more games than the Netherlands.
The outcome of the clashe was effectively determined in the first half, with the Netherlands scoring all three goals in a 22-minute period. Marten de Roon opened the scoring, followed by a goal from Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, and Wout Weghorst.
However, the halftime break brought a concerning injury situation for Manchester City's Nathan Ake. He had been playing as part of a back-three for the Netherlands, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Lutsharel Geertruida. According to Dutch broadcaster NOS (via City Xtra), Ake did not return for the second half as planned due to an injury, which was speculated to be a likely hamstring issue at the time.
While no further details about the injury have emerged, it is expected that if Ake suffered a muscular problem in the first half, he will return to Manchester City immediately for further assessment by the club's medical staff.
The Citizens' next match after the international break is an away fixture against West Ham United in the Premier League, where they will aim to maintain their perfect start to the season.
September will also see City begin their UEFA Champions League campaign by hosting Red Star Belgrade at the Etihad Stadium and facing Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup third round at St James' Park.
