Manchester United beating competition to sign Barcelona midfielder

Barcelona are not planning to offer Ivan Rakitic an improved contract and Manchester United are reportedly in a good position to sign him this summer, according to ESPN. Rakitic has been a key player for Barcelona since his move from Sevilla in 2014. However, his contract with the club expires in 2021. As the Catalan giants have already announced they’re bringing in Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong and looking to sign Matthijs De Ligt, Rakitic could be sold this summer to help raise funds. The 30-year-old has a €125m release clause but if a transfer was to happen, it would be unlikely to be anywhere near that. Inter Milan and PSG are also keen to sign the Croatia international, however, Manchester United are in a pole position for his signature. Source- ESPN
