Arsenal summer signing Maatteo Guendouzi has established himself as one of the Premier League's outstanding young talents this season and at a tender age is a crucial part of Emery's first-team plans.
Only Alex Iwobi and Lucas Torreira have made more appearances than Guendouzi this season. Only the Uruguayan, Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have logged more minutes.
The 19-year-old, who is on his way to return to France for his competitive match with Arsenal has revealed the secret behind his success at the Emirates.
"I’m a young player, I have a lot of energy," Guendouzi told
football.london.
"I run for my team-mates. I fight for my team.
"I play with my heart. I give in every match 150 per cent. I give everything. "That’s the secret, I suppose."
After just 36 appearances in all competitions Guendouzi is proving to be the ideal midpoint between Xhaka and Torreira, arguably even the one around whom Emery is planning now.
"When I came to Arsenal last season we went to the pre-season in Singapore and I knew it was important to show what I could do," he says now.
"I knew I had to play well and I did play well.
"I got the confidence of the coach and the other players. Hopefully I’ll still go on like that for a while."
