Maurizio Sarri has explained why he dropped Callum Gudson-Odoi from Chelsea’s squad to face Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
The West Londoners were humiliated with 4-0 defeat by Bournemouth and despite travelling to the coast and having impressed in the FA Cup last time out, Hudson-Odoi was not named in Chelsea’s 18-man squad.
Speaking about the decision to leave Hudson-Odoi out of the squad after the match, Sarri explained: ‘He was with us, he played three days ago.
"There was Willian, so I had only one winger on the bench. We have four wingers, one had to be in the stands."
Earlier Sarri complained from lack of respect by Hudson-Odoi as the youngster tried to push through the move by handing in a transfer request to Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia after seeing the club turn down a £35m plus add-ons bid from the Bundesliga giants.
Anyway, Sarri’s decision to drop him was not just a coincidence.
