Neymar’s transfer isn’t the most expensive of all-time if inflation is taken into account. According to research from
Play Ratings, Ronaldo’s move from Barcelona to Inter Milan in 1997 would be worth £388 million in today's market.
Ronaldo’s move from Spain to Italy cost £25 million 22 years ago and it makes him £190million more expensive than his fellow Brazilian, Neymar.
The second spot goes to Michel Platini, who moved from Saint-Etienne to Juventus in 1982 and it would have been equal to £299 million in the modern market.
If inflation is taken into account, Neymar is actually only the fifth most expensive player in history.
