One of the most beloved football competitions, the World Cup, is now on the horizon. The competing national teams will fight for the name of the best. 

Some players have definitely secured their place in their respective national squads showing great form in club football. 

Unfortunately, there are also the ones who will have to miss this huge competition due to injuries. So, let's take a look at the list of the players who are likely not to take part in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. 

 

Which players could miss FIFA World Cup 2022 due to injury? 

Karim Benzema (France)

Real Madrid and France star Karim Benzema will miss the World Cup after picking up a thigh injury in training. 

The attacker will now be out of Les Bleus' 26-man squad in the major competition held in Qatar. 

 

Gabriel Jesus (Brazil)

Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup due to a knee injury he sustained during Brazil’s 1 - 0 defeat to Cameroon on December 2.

 

Diogo Jota (Portugal)

Diogo Jota picked up an injury during Liverpool's 1-0 win over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, October 16.

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Portuga international will miss the World Cup in Qatar due to injury.

 

Reece James (England)

Chelsea have confirmed that Reece James will miss eight weeks after his knee injury suffered against AC Milan.

As a result of an injury, the Blues star would be out for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Winger Jesus Manuel Corona is among the players who will miss the 2022 World Cup.

The Mexico international fractured his fibula during the training session and picked ligament damage in his left ankle.

Another World Cup without Marco Reus as the Germany international suffered a horrible injury during Borussia Dortmund's match against Schalke in September. 

The 33-year-old rolled his ankle while challenging for the ball which forced him to be ruled out of Germanys traveling squad to Qatar.

Mike Maignan will miss the World Cup after Milan coach Stefano Pioli confirms his calf injury will keep him out until 2023.

 

Georginio Wijnaldum (The Netherlands)

Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to be left out of the Netherlands squad after suffering a broken leg in his training with AS Roma.

The midfielder will be out of action for the long term as he sustained a fractured tibia.

He is expected to be out of action until at least next year after undergoing surgery to repair a tendon muscle in his hamstring.

The 18-year-old is sidelined after suffering an ACL injury during Bayer Leverkusen's match against Cologne.

The 30-year-old is set to miss the FIFA World Cup 2022 after undergoing surgery on his left knee. 

 

Paul Pogba (France)

Paul Pogba's agent confirms that Pogba will miss the World Cup in Qatar through injury. Pogba is currently out with a knee injury.

Sardar Azmoun is doubtful for World Cup 2022 as he has suffered a calf injury and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

USMNT defender Chris Richards has announced that he will miss the 2022 World Cup due to a thigh injury.

 

Jose Gayà (Spain)

Valencia star has suffered an injury in Spain's training session and further tests will be done tomorrow to know whether the injury is serious. However, the defender's stay in Qatar is in major doubt. 

Marcos Alonso or Alejandro Balde could be the player's potential replacements if needed.

 

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mané will miss the World Cup, Senegal have confirmed. He will not be able to be part of the squad as he’s not recovering from his injury.

Joaquín Correa

Joaquín Correa is released from the World Cup squad due to injury. Thiago Almada will join the team to replace him.

Nico Gonzalez

Nico González will miss the World Cup due to injury.
